We train to be the best. We train to be the pinnacle of what mankind can be because when we meet them, we need to not just represent our country, but our entire planet. We need to not only be the best physically, but the best mentally, emotionally- every way we can possibly be the best. We need to be that- and beyond. 

The advances in space travel have been significant, but that doesn’t change the fact that for months we’re going to be locked in a metal cage and flung halfway across the galaxy. It won’t take long comparatively to how long it could take, but that’s still months going light years beyond where we’ve been able to go- This is the furthest our species will go, and I get to be one of the ones who was chosen to go.
