PREVIEW
The first thing to die was the peppers. They’d grown so well when she was tending to them and then — it was like they knew. The weather turned and even if I brought them in out of the cold at night it wasn’t enough. They died. All three pots full of peppers died.
I was determined to keep something alive, but it was like nature was out to get me. Next was the tomatoes. A strong wind destroyed the trellis. I tried to get one of those cage things so that they’d survive, but it wasn’t enough. Once they were ripped from the support they seemed to give up as well.
