Wuthering Frights - Calgary Fringe 2025 Review

You can do a little with a lot.

Improv lives or dies from it's troupe. The chemistry between the people can sink or save a show - and this is a troupe that knows what they're doing.

Finding out the Kinkonauts are a mainstay at Calgary Fringe - I believe it. Their chemistry is apparent, their ability to create long form improv is quite masterful.

Combining a lot of this into the tropes of a Gothic horror is very ambitious and in the production I saw there were certainly moments of challenge - but there were also moments of triumph. Improv can sometimes feel effortless, and can sometimes feel effortless - and this particular production was somewhere in the middle. A hearty challenge capably performed by a fantastic bunch of performers eager for the challenge.

The challenge when reviewing improv is the next show could be worse, or much much better, but as it stands I'd happily take a risk with this bunch knowing that I'd be absolutely thrilled to see them again.
