The Zucchini Club - Toronto Fringe 2025 Review

The Zucchini Club - Toronto Fringe 2025 Review

Canada has produced some of the best children's programming in history - and with the Zucchini Club Alexander Mantia carries this proud tradition forward.

A charming story that feels equal parts heartwarming, sweet, encouraging - this show is the equivalent of a warm hug to the soul. He advertises it as a 13+ show, but frankly there's nothing in here that would raise eyebrows for younger crowds.

His puppetry is fluid and expressive. The old fashion style stage really plays to his advantage and keeps everyone invested and focused in a way that feels intimate and personable. His skill is undeniable and he managed to imbue such character into his myriad of characters that it's a true delight to behold.

Knowing this is his first Fringe show is surprising as he holds attention like a pro. He feels like he's been doing this for years and this is a show that would absolutely kill at children's festivals and adult fringes.

As it currently stands, if he wanted to go for a more adult angle, there is certainly a lot of room to do that. I can see two different versions of this show coming in the future: one for children, one for adults - but both will be an absolute delight.

With one show, I think Alexander has made an absolute fan of me - and I am excited to see what he is able to create from here.
