FAMILY!
No one will accuse them of not going all the way - The pedal to the metal if you will.
This is a fun show. It's highly energetic and deeply, deeply silly. The whole production is a perfect blend between Romeo and Juliet and Fast and the Furious with both being represented in a near ideal blend of peanut butter and chocolate. The performances are over the top and go hard from the very beginning to the end- Full throttle if you will.
This is a group that has done this show before - but there is still a ruff and gruff energy to the production. Some choices left me scratching my head and there's quite a bit of dead air as the show is ramping up, but once the cars come out, everything starts to move at a pace.
There is a lot to enjoy here - especially if you're a fan of the franchises. My biggest critique comes from a beginning that, unsurprisingly, feels rushed. They get through a lot very quickly which makes the bromance, and the subsequent deaths lack the weight and impact that they deserve. That being said, everyone is going hard - with over the top acting choices that add a ton of levity and silliness that had me cackling. At no point did anyone say no
As a silly good time, this is absolutely one of the biggest and silliest, with some of my biggest and deepest laughs of the Fringe so far. It preaches FAMILY and you'll leave with a smile on your face. Does it still have some rough edges? For sure- but they do a lot with a little here - but I'm not sure if they'll be able to drive that car all the way back to Ottawa.
Matti McLean is in Orlando Fringe presenting A CANADIAN EXPLAINS EUROVISION TO AMERICANS. The song he'd be most likely to recommend for this particular show would be Poland's 2021 - Rafal's "The Ride" - as it's the only thing I can think of that references cars.
