I have had the privilege of seeing Les perform before - but I do believe that this is his best work yet.
First off, Les has a knack for finding the lost history of queer black men - and the stories he finds are always exciting, entertaining and equal parts heartwarming - and heartbreaking. He takes a light and shines in corners that many would leave behind - which is truly a shame because they are all rather fantastic. His ability to find and share these important narratives is something that I hope more scholars will come to and seek out.
History aside, Les this time does a great job of reflecting between the events of Reed Peggram- the featured icon in this piece - and his own unconventional love story. The parallels across time, and the importance of queer visibility and protection are as important as they are unconventional and he does a great job of weaving them together in an unexpected tapestry that is rich and vibrant.
Told in a relaxed and casual manner, Les has a wonderful way of inviting in the audience and sharing with them a story that is impactful and compelling.
