The Heterosexuals - Orlando Fringe Review 2025

The Heterosexuals - Orlando Fringe Review 2025

There are few things scarier than reviewing a friend's show.

If I'm too honest, will they hate me? If I hate it, how will I be able to be around them?

Thankfully, Johnnie who I consider a dear friend, doesn't need to worry about what I think. His show, The Heterosexuals is one that I've been eager to see for years, and now that I have, my only annoyance is that I haven't been able to see it years earlier.

He commands the stage in an effervescent style that makes you relaxed and excited to be there. From the opening moments to the final bow, he enraptures you in a silly yet superb world that reveals the truth behind the queer hive mind (that we all know and love) and broadcasts to the audience. It's hard to explain this show without ruining it, but from the opening moments Johnnie fills the audience with delight and creates a show that is hilarious, silly and surprisingly reverent.

Now, the one critique I will say is when he slags off some of the best Canadian rock bands to ever be forgotten by the public. (The Tea Party still slaps!) BUT the bit was a good one so I shall forgive it.

Definitely a show not to be missed from a performer who clearly knows exactly what he's doing.

Matti McLean is here from Canada to present A CANADIAN EXPLAINS EUROVISION TO AMERICANS - The Eurovision song he'd recommend for those who enjoy THE HETEROSEXUALS is from Belgium in 2023 with Gustaph's Because of You.
