It's a Gay Old Time
There are some people who step onto a stage and own it effortlessly. When P. Sparkles emerges until they take their final bow, they have a talent to captivate, engage and entertain in such a raucous way that you could probably sit for at least another hour.
A children's show for adults, Gayborhood is irreverent, silly, satirical and absolutely delightful. With elements as familiar as a Mr Rogers sweater, all the elements here are firing throughout in a way that makes this feel like a modern next step for something like Avenue Q. This show feels like Fred Penner meets Rick and Steve (I hope Americans catch the reference).
The cast is all completely gung ho in their roles with no weak links. It's held together by Sparkles who is in complete control from the time they begin, but offering each of their guests a great bit that keeps the show memorable from start to finish.
Overall, they are an Orlando Fringe institution for a reason - and this show is made even more impressive by the fact that they weren't even aware they would be having a press preview.
If you have a soft spot for children's programming, and a desire to laugh, this show is absolutely a must see.
I am Matti McLean and I am presenting A CANADIAN EXPLAINS EUROVISION TO AMERICANS as a part of Orlando Fringe!
The song I would pair this show with is Belgium 2023 - Gustaph's Because of you. A power pop ballad strongly inspired by 90's dance songs that wasn't expected to win it's national final, but went on to finish 7th in the contest!
