MOTHER: A Postpartum Comedy

There is a very specific visceral quality that cannot be conveyed when discussing Mother by Anne Zander. But I left the show feeling connected not just to her, but to the struggles and challenges that my own mother and family must've faced. They say "To a child, Mother is God," but imagine the conflict that happens beyond that.

That is Mother. A brilliant clown piece that hits you directly in the heart. Equally funny, challenging, agonizing and impressive, Mother is a fantastic exploration of a side of motherhood we all know must exist, but is rarely shown with such bravery and compassion.

The piece explores movement pieces with clever props used as metaphors for everything from Baby, to the water breaking - even to afterbirth.

The choices are big, bold and uncompromising.

While this is not a world I'm likely to ever experience myself, I'd say the execution was such that it allows even those who don't possess the memories to appreciate it. And those with compassion to experience the darker side of motherhood in a more lighthearted production.

A definite do-not miss at Orlando Fringe.
