CSS Best of Fest 2026 Nominee
In every way Jeff Leard is likeable, this show paints a truly heinous and despicable truth that we all know exist- but I sometimes question if we all are actually aware of how bad it is.
Doing an anti-capitalist show in this day and age should be easy- but to come across in a way that paints the dire crisis we find ourselves in an easy to follow and digestible way is commendable.
We are living in a world in crisis, and right now a lot of hopelessness is going around- and while this show might not make you feel better about that specifically, it is a very good structuring and contemplation on it.
To begin, Jeff is an excellent performer. This production is well researched and the creation is exceptionally well done on every front. He seldom misses a beat and his ability to hold the audience as he swims through some very uncomfortable waters feels both important, harrowing and infuriating.
While he doesn't incite the world to riot, he does lay out some very important truths that make this piece feel simultaneously too real and "how on earth can this all be happening?"
The irony of a man who is likeable, intelligent and all too resonant creating a show about some of humanities least human people is a cruel irony- but this show doesn't shy away from the challenge- and ends in a delightful power fantasy that takes the reigns off and allows him to play - offering a large dose of much needed fun...
It is rare when I would say a show is important to watch, but if was ever to assign that label to one- this would certainly be the choice. Well researched, well presented and very, very well done.
