DREAMROLES

If you're a theatre kid (and likely if you're not) you know what it's like to want to play a specific role onstage. We know the Sweeney's, the Evan Hansen's - the roles that seem almost impossible to achieve in reality. Because for most of us they are. We're the wrong gender, type, size - but what if you could be the one role you always wanted to be?

For Laurel Melina, Bryan Cantrell and Matt Cordon this opportunity has come with a trio of exceptional talents who thrive onstage. In this cabaret performance they each come out with gusto featuring their incredible voices and showcasing why they believe they possess the capabilities to perform them perfectly.

This show is a pitch perfect, feel good piece that gives each capable performer a chance to really shine in material that they could absolutely, justifiably do well. With no dead air and a tight show that flies by some pieces stand out more than others. Cantrell and Melina's back to back showstopping numbers display their obvious and incredible talent (although one song in-between might've gone a long way to giving each performer more time to shine - but time is obviously a factor coming in at a tight 59 minutes). The true must-see number is an absolutely outstanding Sondheim piece that absolutely steals the show.

Credit must be given to Cordon on the keys as well who not only is an exceptional pianist (PIANIST!) but also holds his own proving to be a powerhouse in his own right.

Not all the songs are bangers, and some song choices are ones that I wouldn't pick- but that's also exactly the point. I was exposed to new works, experienced the talents of incredible performers, and had a stellar time with all of it.
