A good improv show lives and dies on its ensemble - and you can tell within the first few minutes that the Kinkonauts know what they're doing. The chemistry is dynamic and fun. The willingness to play and the way they all communicate is a delight to see. There is an ease and a comfortable nature to the presentation which helps keep the show moving and flowing and allows each performer several moments to shine.
Now, improv can always be unpredictable with some hits and misses in each show- but this show is clever enough to allow each scene to marinate just long enough to plant a few seeds to lead the way to many callbacks later. Their foresight on this is commendable and in the production I saw lead to satisfactory wrap up of a boy who turned into a giraffe fighting off a satanic head of an AI data center - yet somehow it all made sense.
The troupe has a lot of fun, and makes the most of an absurd idea, but absolutely thrives when they come together to create magic.
