BIG GAY JESUS
A good character can make any show better.
Big Gay Jesus is really more of a cabaret act around a fun, charming character and when that happens your show better be extraordinary.
This show is fascinating because at first glance it's barely a show.
We dabble a bit in mentalism, movement and variety acts, but never does this feel like a show with a plot. It's a man straddling the line between stand up comedy, game show hosting and one man show- but somehow it all works together.
Big Gay Jesus oozes sass, charm and flirtations. He is quirky and confident and easy to fall in love with onstage. He's funny, engaging and uncomposed.
The show is fluffy, lighthearted fun that revels in it's own kookiness and for a 60 minute Fringe show, it fulfills the assignment rather ridiculously. Now- if it was to be a longer show, I would hope for a bit more plot, story or conflict, but for this fun little romp through a character study, I think it stands on it's own.
A definite fun watch and certainly one I would go see again.
