Beth and Josie XPOSED - Calgary Fringe 2025 Review

A good story can capture the imagination like few other things.

We are inherently social creatures who crave belonging and community. In the past this was done with passing on tales at the campfire which is very much kept alive in Xposed. There is a feeling of communal storytelling that permeates through the piece and forms a show that is edgy, exciting and endearing.

Without spoiling much of the show (at the behest of the creators), this show follows a traditional of solid storytelling the ignites the imagination and illuminates the creators by casting them in a beautiful new light that left me feeling eager to see them again.

That being said, the opening is a bit chaotic, and the energy between performers is contrasted that showcases then quite well. While Beth is someone you can tell has done this for years with a solid grounding and a strong presence, Juice is more spry and more likely to play off the audience.  Both are  in their element when you see them at their most raw and vulnerable. They have easily captured a unique magic that showcases a fantastic stripped back storytelling show that deserves to be seen by anyone eager to be enrapt in the art of the tale.

There are of course some minor notes - Juice had a tendency to float around the stage and could find a few more moments of stillness to really hammer home their points, and their moments of ‘trauma clown’ could be incorporated in a way that isn't quite so jarring at the end, but overall these are extremely minor nitpicks in an otherwise absolutely excellent show.

Certainly do not miss this show if you want classic storytelling done by two masters of the craft. (And some fucked up ones at that)
