The Bible takes a lot of things for granted - but nothing more than its women.
I have heard the story of David many times, but through the perspective of traditional Biblical values.
Looking at this man from the perspective of the women who surrounded him reveals a very specific and different story.
Rainier has created a show that on the surface is a silly re-contextualizing of the life of some very influential (and ignored) old testament women - but underneath is a radical new take on the stories that should be seen by anyone who has ever asked questioning on the why and how of the old testament.
The show itself is dynamic and simple using great props, a great set and a creative use of simplicity reigning supreme. Their choices are deliberate and compliment the play as a whole quite well.
The stories themselves are well done, well researched and well acted. Rainier moves between various characters with such ease that the audience is never lost and the script never stalls. There are deliberate moments of pause that are often just as impactful as the script itself.
Some standout moments are the character of Egla (and her feelings box) and the scene in the bath, but to be fair there isn't a weak moment in the lot.
100 Foreskins is a brilliant recontextualization of the story of David through a wildly feminist lens, and absolutely a do-not-miss at Calgary Fringe.
